Conclusion

The main question that I was stumped with as I worked through this project was why couldn't this show give a half accurate portrayal of the Wiccan faith. Wicca, as I have learned, is no more unrealistic than many of the mainstream religions followed by today’s general population. On top of that, why was it that on a show based off of such a ritualistic religion, were the only characters that showed any type of ritualistic faith, demons. Suddenly the answer to my questions dawned on me. Now this is only a theory, but the problem wasn't that the general viewship of this show weren’t Wiccan, but instead weren’t overly religious as a whole. Shows today will create likeable characters that the audience can relate to. So instead of having three dedicated Wiccan's gain powers after years of devotion to the craft, the directors must have thought the audience would respond better if they were given to a regular group of Joe’s, or in this case, Jane’s. This theory would also explain why the demons were shown as so religious. To most unreligious people, ritual can seem a bit unnatural. So as the villains of this show it would only be fitting to add this extra attribute of faith to make them seem even more alien or unnatural. However in the end, we all know what it comes down to, and that’s what makes money. So with eight seasons under its belt, you can say they accomplished that much.

When I had originally began making this website I knew that shows like Charmed were made more for entertainment purposes rather than informing it's audience about the Wiccan religion. However, it wasn’t until I started researching the religion itself and comparing it to certain aspects of the show that I realize how inaccurate my own view of what it meant to be wiccan actually was. I never considered that this religion could be a realistic alternative for others as well as myself.

I understand this website will most likely have no effect on the future depiction of Wicca in film, however I do hope that anyone who comes across this site will leave it with a better understanding of this group as a whole. Able to watch these films and shows and decipher what is real and more often then not, what is false.

In conclusion, I will leave you with these words:

The Power of Three won't set you free,

but rather cloud you mind with false truths.

Hope you enjoyed what you have read,
